Share day.
I was very anxious about “announcing” my little blog. Lots of belittling thoughts floated around my head “no one cares…why bother…what’s the point…nobody will look at it”. For the first time in a very very long time, I finally had something exciting and new that I wanted to share with people – something I was proud of and wanted to show everyone. I hesitated and came up with a million excuses, building up my protective wall, brick after brick of excuses mortared with fear and apprehension. I sent the blog out to a handful of friends for feedback and then received a wonderful uplifting phone call from one of them. She had similar experiences releasing creative projects into cyberland so I was eager to hear her thoughts. The message she had for me was short and sweet, and more or less “Just go for it!”. I said “man I remember when it used to fun to share stuff with people just because”… which brought me back to my first memories of sharing – SHARE DAY!!
Many of your kids most likely have Share Day at school – how awesome is that? I remember Share Day from when I was young – I would bring in Barbie Dolls, coloring books, even a pet rabbit one time. While I do remember feeling a little self-conscious about speaking in front of the class, I was always super excited to share what I had brought. I didn’t get caught in what everyone would think of me, or if they thought that what I brought was lame. I just had the attitude of “hey check this thing out- I think it’s super cool so I thought I’d share it with you”. No expectations. No baggage. No judgment.
Somewhere along the way it seems that we, as adults, have become much more guarded and less inclined to share with others “just because”….especially when it comes to something very personal that we are emotionally attached to. However, thanks to facebook and social networking, we sometimes share a little too much, eh? But in a way it’s teaching us all to be more comfortable with sharing again; being transparent, and just putting yourself out there. I recently posted a picture of myself wearing two different shoes, which I had worn out to dinner and totally didn’t notice. Sometimes sharing our imperfections helps us embrace them more.
After the phone call with my friend, I finally decided that it was my turn for Share Day. I let go of my fears and knocked down that wall and… finally…Clicked…Send. That wasn’t scary at all. Thank you for being a part of my Share Day – here’s to more adventures!

ReplyDeleteThanks for reading everyone! :-)
ReplyDeletethat's so bonus!
ReplyDeleteletting our guard down, allowing ourself to be transparent, as you wrote, is the key to life! no attachment. anytime it feels a little challenging, that's a rough spot that needs to be smoothed out. and being transparent is the trick- just do it anyways :)
Happy i can now read about your life,
Janny
